Question Houston Skyline and Downtown - 06-17-2009, 06:24 PM

Six of us amatures are planning a trip to downtown Houston to get some skyline pictures, night scenes, etc. If you have any recommendations as to specific locations we would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

The Sabine Street bridge (west side of DT), also the Allen Parkway/Memorial parks in that area. The Police Memorial. and Sam Houston Park (near the library) all have great skyline views.

Thanks for the info, I'll check them out. I'm sure we'll find plenty of good views there.

One suggestion is parking garages. You can get some great views at some of the garages. I took the following at the Continental Airlines garage.

You can also get good views of downtown from the bridge that runs behind the Hobby Center. It is part of the Sabine to Bagby Promenade.

Laurie,

The Promenade looks perfect. Would that location be ok for a big camera on a tripod?

I don't see why that would be a problem. There are paths that are used by joggers and bikers so as long as you don't block the whole sidewalk there shouldn't be a problem. I love that little section of downtown. You can read more about the project here:

Sunrise shoot one weekend, perhaps? Shouldn't be too much foot traffic if we get there early enough.

I took a look on Google Earth, I think evening/sunset would be better than sunrise this time of year, maybe we should head down there after work one Friday...

Jeff,

I have tons of family stuff going on until after the July 4th weekend. July 10-11-12 is the earliest for me. I see the walkway over the bayou on the map. Looks good. Sunset photo op and a casual meal after?

You don't need to worry too much about foot traffic there. I have never seen it crowded at all. One person may come by every few minutes.

True. Very few folks walk in Houston.

The Hard Rock Cafe isn't too far away. Any outdoor, patio style dining places in the neighborhood?

Can you give the details of these two pictures ? Lens used, Shutterspeed, etc.
