We all know Houston's reputation when it comes to preserving our architectural heritage. Well, I found a website that focuses on Houston's real estate. Sounds dull, unless you visit the site!

It's called Swamplot, and it's actually more like a daily blog. http://swamplot.com

The interesting thing about this for photographers is that Swamplot has a Daily Demolition Report, and they announce buildings that are slated for demo. That means that you can swoop in and take those final shots before that piece of history is gone forever in favor of dollar dollar bills, y'all.

There are other uses for the site too, although I'm sure I haven't found half of them yet. It just seems like a really good resource for people who are looking for cool places in Houston to shoot. If any of y'all start using it in any way, please share...I'd like to know how you use it and what's come of the shoots!

Angie, thanks for that link. I went out and looked at it last night.

I want to start making that one of the sites I cruise regularly so that I can see if there are places going under the wrecking ball that I could realistically get to... given that my only free time is on Saturday and Sunday...

BTW, I really liked one of the places (the dry cleaner) that came up on the list yesterday.

I welcome comments on any picture I post... Thanks.

I found another one that's kinda cool. It doesn't really give you places to shoot, I guess, unless you just know where the stuff is already, but it's a blog where the guy takes one Houston-related pic a day. Just a neat thing to plug into your RSS feed and check.

Yep. About a decade's worth. Oh, I guess it's really not that bad.

Another site I use a lot and has been restructured since the last time I visited is HoustonDeco.org. They list Houston's buildings by decade and list its current status. Some of them have pictures of both original and current states. I pay particular attention to the ones listed as "endangered," because I like to have something to b*tch about.
