Good place for Boudoir shoots? - 09-17-2009, 09:46 AM

I have a group of girls who want to schedule a day for boudoir shoots for their husbands (Christmas gift). What are some good hotels or bed & breakfasts or other locations that offer a great backdrop? I know of Hotel Icon but any others you would suggest?

What's your threshold for cleverness/artistic opportunities? There are several motels with very very dated decor in some questionable neighborhoods. It would make for some interesting black & whites. Icon could cost you a couple bills per night; save your $200 and rent a room for a few hours @ $20 and get some interesting sexy retro pin-ups.

But wash your hands after you leave. :P

ehhh...just bring your own sheets. no biggie. you could even get some creative shots out on the street beforehand with the rest of laborers. oh, they don't want to convey themselves as being trash?!

if you are going to spring for a hotel room, i would do the hotel zaza. a suite monday thru thursday will run you $400, but they are awesome. but if by a couple you mean 3...you stack them all up back to back on the same day and make it make cents. when i say stack, I mean it in a scheduling sense, not a physical.

Update: They were able to book a good size room at the Icon on a Sunday for $125 so looks like we will be going with that. I have 4 girls to shoot so we are going to stagger them.

Do some search on the subject here, using hotel rooms as shoot locations, and don't be suprised if that room rate goes up greatly if you start walking in with a bunch of lighting equipment.

As to the No Tell Motels you could send in a cleaning crew (carpet cleaning/steam cleaning of furniture) for about $75 to do the room that morning and then take in a cheap set of sheets and then even make the last shoot a "crime Scene" type shoot with fake blood and stuff and they probably would care less if you shoot there and they probably would invite you back since you would ahve cleaned the crap out of the room for them.(just don't let the fage blood splatter on the crime scene shoot get to out of hand).

Hey that could be a cool CSI type shoot with extras in uniforms and stuff.

Total cost under $140 and you would be able to get a special shoot tossed in.

Try to find a place that looks like it was from the 30's for the retro look.

I love the CSI Idea and may incorporate that at a later shoot. As for this one, I am acquaintences with the girls and I have a large suitcase that will fit my gear. I am just taking the speeds and 2 strobes so not a lot of bulk.

There is a hotel in the Plano area that has been discussed here about how photographers have been using their facilities as shoot locations and the hotel has started charging like an additional $400 or so on top of the original room rate (on long thread here talking about it for the last couple months) and even getting the cops after some of the shooters.

Good luck on the shoot but the notell motel thing could be an interesting shoot with the right adventurious models/subjects. (just use an independent cleaning service to do the room up-plenty of guys working out of a truck would do the job for under $100 since it is basically a one room gig- but some of the older court type motels are multiroom suits with kitchenettes and some even have second bedrooms (don't ask how I know I just do). Look along old highway routes for em-they are getting fewer and more far between in the last 10 years with urban sprawl.
