Ashford Point (Alief) - 10-17-2009, 09:12 PM

A model recently made me aware of a esplenade / community park that runs between the lanes of Ashford Point Dr, between Synott and Dairy Ashford just north of the Westpark Tollway:

The location features several walking tunnels, a pair of tunnels about 5 feet high, metal floodgates, and a concrete drainage culvert with light graffiti.

I had assumed that the gold-domed building was an active Mosque, but is actually the Abandoned Chong Hua Sheng Mu Holy Palace as described here:

Out of respect, I avoided obvious shooting of the building, but knowing what it is I now may go back for closer shots.

Plenty of street parking, and the area seemed quiet and safe.

That's so close to where I live now, never knew. Wish there was more to the graffiti.

BTW: Just to the west (off Eldridge & Westpark - the street, not tollway) is a new drainage pond that the city/county put in for floods - it's HUGE. Nice place for waterside portraits and there are also some nice groves of trees.

They are planning to build a park I believe, and there is no where to park my car even though its walking distance from my house

So far I haven't done a model shoot there, but it remains a priority.

It's not due to any problems with the location but rather that the models preferred other options.

Hello everyone . Anyone that plans to shoot there will not be disappointed. Check out some shots of me taken inside the tunnel.

http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/1212141

Here are a few portrait type shots:
http://www.gottakeepyourheadup.com/

There is plenty of parking along the side of the apartments, across from Vanderbilt Apartments on Ashford Point. The walk park has about 3 walk tunnels and a twin sewage tunnels at the front. Bring your lights also, for the tunnel shots.

Richard I look forward to do some work with you there.

My first model shoot there which was also my first using gelled flashes. The location and technique worked well together:
