Need some help with locations,,,Houston Downtown - 12-24-2009, 07:55 AM

I searched on this forum but most of the post are old. I was asked to do a photo shoot for 3 or 4 models and they want a dirty, edgy, abandoned, dark, torn up place for a background. I was thinking next to the minute maid stadium. If anyone has any ideas it could help me a lot. Thanks for your time.

Opposite 59 from the convention center there are some run-down warehouses. Try looking in the Dowling/Polk area.

Grant posted some shots recently that he did around the Spaghetti Factory, they might fit what you're looking for. Speaking of which I need to check it out and see if I might use it myself...lol

There's also the old three-story building down at Allen's Landing, at the foot of Main Street, just east of where it crosses over the Bayou. It's kind of an interesting setting because you have a well-kept park juxtaposed against a building in a rather advanced state of decay. Plus you have the Buffalo Bayou as a backdrop. And the right angle may even allow for this juxtaposition between upkeep and decay.

The shut down Sears store where the light rail line crosses Main.
They aren't exactly edgy, but there are completed but never occupied commercial buildings all over the Cypress/Copperfield area.
Closed Circuit City, Linens N Things, car dealers, etc.
I'll keep my eyes open for more.
The places I see are places I wouldn't want to be in with expensive stuff and, more importantly, models.

Im interested on what you found and how your shoot went.

I live in houston and have done some gritty model shots for backgrounds ... just wanted to see what you came up with.

well , i came up with a few spots and getting screwed by a friend that wants pictures of his models for free and then giving the work to another photographer with a point and shoot camera that did the work for free. but that is another topic.

Im at work and dont have the images with me.
If you drive to the minute maid stadium, next to 59, there is a lot of potential there, you just have to find what fits your needs. a lot of old warehouses and some alleys.
I was able to get a parking garage in midtown, my nephew and niece live there, so they gave me the key to enter.
That is all i found for now, still looking for more.

I know, and to put the cherry on top, I had sent him pictures of the locations that i had found with address. The day before the shoot, they call me and tell they had flaky models and canceled. So i say no problem, let me know when you guys are ready. A couple of days later, i go and check a social web page that we both belong to, and what do i see on his profile??????????????
pictures of the FLAKY models on the exact same locations that I had found and sent to them. Sorry but i had to vent................
