Where to go other than Galveston Strand? - 11-05-2010, 01:12 PM

I had planned on taking my two younger sisters to the Galveston strand this Sunday...to just spend some time together, shopping, eating ice cream, and taking some urban type photos to frame for mom for Christmas. Well, this weekend is the Lone Star Bike Rally so I'm not going anywhere NEAR Galveston.

I don't really get out much and experience new places & things...so I'm at a loss as to where else we could go to sort of get the same overall experience?

Any ideas?

Just hate they don't open 'til 11. I also don't think that would have quite the urban type feel i could get in the alleys behind the strand... I'd have to setup my tripod to get a shot of all 3 of us. So if I did go there for shopping & ice cream, perhaps a 2nd location may be in order also?

Sugar Land's town square might be ok. Very 'urban' feel to it. lots of shops, etc... but no real 'alleys' per se.

Not sure if you'll get this in time, but the attractions on the Boardwalk, although dont wind up until 11, there's still the great lighthouse district area, and the physical boardwalk you can still get around, just no shops / rides open (less people, maybe better situation). I've been out there to shoot ed/features late at night. But you're right, not as urban as the alleys on the island.

Just don't speed, PD there got a new Camaro and it's stealth-marked / hard to spot!

We ended up going to Kemah...with plans to go to the strand another time. I mean, it was really more about spending time with sisters more than anything. We had some fun at the little photospot near the roller coaster that has the jail and saloon doors. lol!

Daniel, would you please tell us what "Boardwalk" and lighthouse district you are talking about. How do we get there? What would we find there?
Some of us are not natives, but would like to visit.
Thanks!
