Rice University and the some of the museums have beautiful buildings. The Houston Zoo is also in the area for some animal photography.

I was jusr searching Rice's web site and discovered that you have to be an approved photographer on their list and make appointments to shoot models there. When did that start?

I shot some models there last summer at the same building posted above in the top "color" shot and had no problems. I'm not from Houston and did not know you had to have permission.

Been that way for years, however most of the time no one bothers you. I have been on the list for several years now and I have only had a problem one time and that was due to having 4 photographers there at the same time with one saying he had the time to his client and we would all need to move out of his way. To be offical you have to make an appointment via their website, print out the appointment sheet with the studio and clients name on it and take it with you in case someone asks you about being there. It is a private univ. and not a state funded one so they can pretty much do what they want too.

$100 yearly fee, not much to pay to shoot out there in comfort and no worries.

you can book appointments through the website once you have registered with them... they generally have plenty of times available. personally, i like the fact that i "can" tell non-scheduled photogs to skee-daddle if need be ;) the architecture is beautiful and classic!

Rice shoots - 03-25-2007, 09:58 PM

The $100 fee only started a couple of years ago, and it is very reasonable compared to say Vargo's or the mansion in Galveston, etc. You can also shoot in the garden across the street for free anytime. Really pretty when the azaleas are blooming.
