Rice University - 07-19-2011, 10:43 PM

I have read in some past threads about having to pay to photograph at Rice University. Are they strict? Just curious. I have never shot there and thought it might be a good place for senior shoots. Have you shot before without registering? Just curious.

And if you have shot there before, do you mind sharing any pictures? Thanks!

Yeah I have seen that, thank you! I would love to find somebody that has actually shot there before just so I know. I have a senior session I'm thinking about doing there but hate to pay and do it if I don't like it. I don't think I would not like it, but you know.

It's $50 a year to get the privilege to request a time, then it's $50 fore each block of reserved time (can't reserve two blocks consecutively). Probably still not bad compared to some places.

I was thinking about doing a campus photowalk (no "clients, so it would be free), just to take pictures of what's around and the architecture. Need to look into setting that up.

That's a good idea, maybe I'll just go walk it and see what there is!

Definitely reserve your time. Sometimes the Rice PD will ask you, sometimes they won't. But if there is another photographer there that did pay, they can call and have you kicked off. You will then be banned from shooting at Rice for at least a year and given a trespassing warning. It is also incredibly rude to the photographer that went to the time and effort (and expense) of reserving the very limited area at Rice.

I always tell my clients that it is a great location, but there is a $50 fee and we will add that fee to their bill. Everyone has understood so far.

Very true, I will definitely do that. Do you have any pictures from shoots there?
