Williams Tower - 11-03-2008, 09:26 PM

Name: Williams Tower (formerly Transco Tower)
Location: 2800 Post Oak Boulevard, near the Galleria
Google Map
Website: Here
Building History: Built in 1983, Architects: Johnson/Burgee Architects and Morris Aubry Architects
Interesting Tidbits: 64 stories tall, reportedly tallest building not in a central urban area. Sky lobby on 51st floor, but apparently closed to public since 9/11. Has a beacon/searchlight on top that rotates at night.
Photog Friendly?: People frequently shoot outside and at nearby Waterwall, but have been exposed to increasing harassment by security if using a "pro" level camera.

I was harassed since I had a tripod. So I put the tripod in the car and walked up to the building to get this..

I inquired what the requirements were to do a shoot there of a bridal party after a wedding and they emailed me a permit application, and a fee request of $250. Yikes.

The building and grounds are private property. They use it and the "falls" as a logo, thus don't want the airwaves flooded with photos of it. That's why.

Then perhaps they should cover the whole thing with a shroud.

I never understood the mindset of building an attractive landmark and not accepting the fact that it will be a popular subject for images.
