JP Morgan Chase Tower - 11-03-2008, 09:28 PM

Name: JP Morgan Chase Tower (formerly Chase Tower & Texas Commerce Bank Tower)
Location: 600 Travis St
Google Map
Website: Official
Building History: Built 1981 by architects I.M. Pei & Partners and 3D/International.
Interesting Tidbits: 75 story, tallest building in Houston & in Texas. 9th Tallest building in the US. It was supposed to be 80 stories, but the FAA determined that was dangerous for planes from Hobby. It was the tallest building in US west of the Mississippi river until the Library/US Bank tower was built in 1990 in LA.
Photog Friendly: Unknown. There is a public observation deck on the 60th floor, listed as the highest public viewing area in Houston and is open 8am - 5pm, mon-fri. Managed by Hines (original owners). Hines apparantly forbids internal photography without permission.

Observation Deck: According to "security" there, they do not allow shots from the Ob Desck/Floor anymore: "9/11" & Terrorism is the usual lame response.

Some people still shoot P&S's up there without problems, but break out a DSLR and security is all over you (they have security cams watching it).

^ That's funny you say that.

I was taking pictures downtown the other day and tried walking in there to get some Starbucks downstairs. She wouldn't let me in with the camera and tripod, even when I offered to leave it with her (I really wanted some coffee).

I see why now.
