I went back and looked at last year's pictures.
On Saturday last year, after the Warbird section closed, I just roamed around all afternoon. As Blue Angels time got close, I wandered down to the south end of the viewing area and plopped myself down on the tarmac a little behind and to the right of the photo pit. From there, I was able to shoot most of the BA show without any heads in the way.
After I left the Warbird section on Sunday, I moseyed over to the fence line at the north end of the viewing area. That's where I was when the F-22 Raptor flew. No, I didn't get a decent shot of the vapor envelope

. Stood there for the next act, and the next act, and the act after that one too. Pretty soon, people were filling in behind me, and since I had a primo spot hanging over the fence (right at the C Taxiway, BTW, on which all of the warbirds taxied to and from their area to the runways), I decided to stay put. Met a lady from Austin who had been sent down to photograph the show, and we had a great time, even when some (enter your own pejorative term) made a snide comment about how we photogs, who had obviously gotten into the show on free media passes, were blocking his and his kids' view. Being my everyday cool self, I told him that we had paid the same $15 he had paid, and that we had no intention of moving. The guy who was right sitting right behind us (and to whose kids we had given room along the fence) set him straight also, and we heard nothing else from him.
But I digress. Bottom line is, we got more great shots on Sunday, but they were from a different angle, and we got the warbirds going and coming. I did notice that I got more head shots on Sunday than on Saturday. I think that was because by being on the fence Sunday, I tried to get more shots of the planes taxiing on the ground than I did on Saturday.
One other thing: I can't find the airshow grounds map from last year, but looking at this year's map, I think the area where I stood on Sunday last year will be fenced off this year. Basically, I was north of the C-17, as close as one could get to the show line. Looking at this year's map
http://www.wingsoverhouston.com/Reso...s_Map_2010.pdf, I see that it looks like they have C-17 with the warbirds. If the map is accurate, the C-17 is the icon of the four-engine jet pointed other way at the very south end of the warbirds' area. Actually, that might be a good thing. It might mean that we'll be able to walk through it.
Hope to see you out there.
