The Beach Boys
Saturday, November 1, 2008
Gates Open 5pm; Beach Boys 9pm

In the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, the show will go on! In an effort to help rebuild Galveston Island and to give back to those so greatly impacted by Hurricane Ike, Moody Gardens and Island Star performances will present a benefit concert on Saturday November 1, 2008, featuring The Beach Boys Live.

Experience a night of legendary music under the stars at the Moody Gardens Outdoor Amphitheater and help the Galveston community in its recovery effort following Hurricane Ike. A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to the United Way of Galveston to benefit the Galveston Chapter of the American Red Cross and Gleanings From the Harvest - Galveston Food Bank. Tickets are $20 for Festival Lawn and $45 for Premium Seating, both sections are general admission. Net proceeds of $5 from every festival lawn ticket sold and $10 from every premium seat ticket sold will go directly to the United Way of Galveston.

Concert goers also are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items that can be dropped off at a series of collection receptacles located at the front entrance of the concert grounds. All food donations will go directly to Gleanings From the Harvest to help victims of Hurricane Ike in need. The American Red Cross will also be on hand accepting donations from those wishing to make a contribution.

Moody Gardens Hotel General Manager Garvin O'Neil is looking forward to the opportunity to bring such a high caliber night of music to the island, provide some moral relief in the form of entertainment, and to give back to the community that means so much to Moody Gardens and their staff, many of whom were impacted greatly themselves by the devastating wrath of Ike. "We're very excited to bring The Beach Boys to Galveston and to help our friends and neighbors in the on-going rebuilding effort. In the wake of Hurricane Ike, the music of the Beach Boys will be just the tonic we all need," said O'Neil.

Led by legendary front man Mike Love, The Beach Boys haven't taken a summer off in 40 years, playing more shows than any other major rock act. The boys of summer continue to rock the world with performances that showcase the same bold imagination and style that marked their explosive debut. Through their music, The Beach Boys truly have found the key to unfading youth, which they share with concert goers across the country.

Widely considered one of America's most important Rock and Roll bands, The Beach Boys have scored a long list of hit singles and sold more than 100 million albums. However, perhaps their greater significance lies in the fact that they changed the musical landscape so profoundly that their musical influence remains prominently evident in the pop/rock acts of today.

Opening for the Beach Boys are special guests and local favorites The Coastliners. Hailing from Baytown and known for their tight five part harmonies, The Coastliners have thrilled audiences from coast to coast, sharing the stage with musical legends such as Roy Orbison, The Righteous Brothers, Neil Diamond and The Byrds, just to name a few.

Gates to the event will open at 5:00 p.m. with The Beach Boys taking the stage at 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at concertsonthegulf.com, by phone at 800-298-4200, and via the Concerts on the Gulf Box Office located in the lobby of the Moody Gardens Hotel. The box office will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 6:00pm. General questions should be directed to the box office phone 409- 683-4186.

A portion of proceeds from tickets sold as part of customized Beach Boys packages offered by the Moody Gardens Hotel also will benefit the United Way of Galveston fund. Customized packages, including accommodations for two at the hotel and two concert tickets, begin at $179 per night for 1-night and $149 per night for 2-nights. To reserve a package, please call 888-388-8484.

Moody Gardens and Island Star Performances would also like to recognize the concert sponsors for their contributions. Sponsors include: Alex Rodriguez Mercedes-Benz, AT&T - The Real Yellow Pages, Coca- Cola, Moody National Bank and New Era Ticketing.

From their website:
"Camera Usage Policy
The Expo Arena and the Outdoor Amphitheater WILL ALLOW photo cameras into all concert events unless otherwise posted. The camera policy for the venue is as follows:
Photo cameras must have a lens of less than 4" long. Professional cameras are not allowed.
The singer/performer may request not to have pictures taken while he or she is performing. Video cameras are not allowed."

Typically "professional camera" means dSLR, especially to security folks at the gate. Does anyone know that they will allow dSLRs?
