It's early to be posting this but I don't know how much advertising they do and wanted to get it on our calendar since these shows are rare...

I'm hoping this is on par with the old collector's show... darn I miss that.

I've never been to one of these things before. Do they usually have great deals on used gear, or is it just fun to check out for lust?

Same question from me too. What do I expect to see?

I've never been, but I've heard that you can count on a bunch of OLD stuff. Like ancient. Pre-digital if your brain goes back that far.

On the other hand, there might be newish stuff too. I would imagine that there are tripods, filters, bags, etc. that aren't sensor specific. Unless of course you crave the latest in digital ready bags, tripods, etc.

I have been to several... only once did i go back for a second day, but that was to get soehting specific I had seen the day before and wanted to sleep on. There seem to be several kind of people selling there:
  1. people who go from show to show with hundreds of boxes (trailer loads!) of used stuff - - the real flea market type of stuff -- reminds me of a hamfest, for those that know what I mean;
  2. people who go from show to show with hundreds of boxes of new stuff (bags, filters, flashes, tripods, unbrellas, and other accessories... everything you can think of);
  3. your average small collector/photographer/seller who has a table's worth of stuff that is usually in decent shape;
  4. people who swoop in with digital stuff that looks very new and in excellent shape (...probably bought it last year...) trying to see how much they can get for it - - don't usually seem to stay for very long; and
  5. people buying used digital equipment - - generally the best attended tables.

I think I'm going to be on vacation this weekend this year, otherwise I'm certain I'd go for at least 1 day...

I welcome comments on any picture I post... Thanks.

But the main question stays: Will they show the Nikon D700x?

These aren't authorized dealers.

Yeah, but maybe they have access to test cameras... hahahaha, gotta have fun...
Can you imagine checking out someone's table full with Brownies and Kodachromes and Technicas and in the middle, nice on a red, thick, soft cloth, under a bullet proof glass case lies a brand new D700x...

I was a dealer at the Houston Show and others starting in 1978 and stopped showing when the web and digital started changing our world in 2004. Most of the dealers are selling old worn out photo stuff, but someone else’s junk can be your treasure. If this show is anything like the old Houston camera club put on it might really be great. We used to have dealers come in with new equipment also, but most of the tables have old film stuff.
Good luck and enjoy if you are going.
