Cameras on the Wall: Why dont you Sell Them? - 08-18-2009, 08:01 AM

I have been in there several times and you guys always tell me that you no longer sell the cameras on the wall. They all have price tags on them? Is there some reason why you no longer do this?

Im seriously looking for a good used Twin Lens Reflex. You have many, im sure some that work, yet you will not part with them. I promise It will have a good home with me.

Can one of you explain why you no longer sell these items? No one in your store seems to be able to explain it. Is it that you have sentimental value on them, or is it that you simply dont wish to be bothered with having to take them down off the wall? Or is it that your sales staff is so inexperienced with film that they would not be able to tell if it worked or not?

Im very curious.

I'm sure the cameras you are referring to are part of a "Collection" and to sell one would devalue the collection. Many camera stores collect vintage cameras and the goal is to assemble a complete set.

Houston Camera Exchange has shelves all along their walls where they keep older cameras. Everything from digitals to kodak brownies. Typically stuff they normally cant sell I would guess.

They used to sell it and it used to be common knowledge in the area that the items on the walls were for sale. But the story is that the owner has become sentimental in recent years and dosent like to sell them anymore.

Thats his decision, true. But I really want a Twin Lens Reflex.

And buying on ebay is okay, but I have never used a TLR and would like to play with a few before I buy one. Wouldnt a camera store want to help the local photographic community? They say they are the only real photo store in houston anymore. They say that, not me.

I dont know, I know most of the world has moved to digital but I would think a store that claims they are the only real photo store in the area would wanna help a brother out. :)

Buy one.
Use it for six months.
Do not drop it.
It will still be worth what you paid for it, and if you don't like it, sell it.
