However, I will email Xrite and see if we can't get a TPF group discount and let you know what I find out. If that doesn't work, for whatever reason, you guys can sign up as one entity and receive the group discount.
Let me get back to you on this and see if we can't get a TPF discount code or reduced rate.
Thanks for the question and interest.

I don't usually flinch at the price but this was a little steep so I would at least think about $249...I don't think my brain could soak up $299 between 9 and 4:30----my brain isn't that big!!! thanks for checking Mike

My request email has just been sent to XRite management as the "sponsoring dealer" (for whatever weight that carries... we will soon see). Let's see what they come back with.
Heck, with my seminar schedule and store work I can't soak up $50 in that same timeframe. I asked for a 50% discount (I always like to ask BIG). Like I said, lets see what they say.
I will let you folks know what I find out.

Mike | | | |

I did this last year, and found it very informative. Spendy, but good info.

I did this about 3 years ago - in Austin. It was GREAT. Definitely worth the money.

It's not a "Photoshop" class. It teaches you about color management, how to calibrate devices, and how to adjust your colors digitally so that you are maximizing the gamut of your lab or printer.
There's a good deal of info that applies to those that have really good printers and print their own stuff (as opposed to a lab), but I took away a lot from the class, and I never print stuff for clients at home.
The downside is, it might turn you into a color snob. Now I expect more from my prints than ever before, but that's a good thing. After taking this class, you'll be suprised at how little some labs know about color management. Some don't even offer icc profiles, because they proof the colors in house. That might save you work, but you never know what you'll be getting back when another (and often different each time) set of eyes is involved in the process, using a monitor that may or may not be calibrated correctly.
Another downside is that if you don't already have a clibration device, you're gonna want to run out and get one immediately. That'll increase the "cost" of the class a little.

Well color is one of my big downfalls, so I'm seriously thinking this would be a big help. I've been wanting to get a calibration tool, so that would help be decide which one to get ---at least I would have a clue as to what to get. I hate it when you're not even smart enough to ask questions as to what to get!! I doubt I'll get smart enough to be a snob though..my brain ain't what it used to be!!!

What you will learn about color management is worth the price of admission. However, another plus for attending the classes is that you will get discount certificates from Mamiya America, the people who distribute, Xrite / Gretag MacBeth color management products, PocketWizard, Profoto, Sekonic, Tenba, MultiCart, Mamiya, etc. that you can use at the seminar to purchase any of these products or for use within one month at HCE. These savings certificates will actually bring the prices down below Internet (i.e. B&H, Adorama) pricing for the same items.
Some folks have actually been able to pay for the cost of admission in the savings that they receive on the other items that they have been wanting.
Thanks,
Mike | | | |
