Hey Mikester!

Is there an ETA on the Canon 580exII

Im looking to get another flash and was curiouos if I should get a 580ex now or hold out for the newer 580exII

Abel,

Canon is telling us that they should ship at the same time as the Mark IIIs. Sometime this month. However, my guess is that we will not see them until next month. I wish they would hurry as they also aren't shipping the original 580s either. So we don't have either flash.

Actually, I was just informed by our Canon representative that the 580 EX II has shipped to us. Hopefully we will see them very shortly.

Just got word from Mike last night that their 580EXII's were delivered yesterday..

I already told him set one aside for me as being SOLD!

Since Lisa has been getting a lot more involved in shooting with her 20d we really needed a second flash. It will also make it easier to do some wireless stuff on the fly with the Canon IR setups without having to break out my pocket wizards all of the time.

Will be picking it up during lunch.

Awesome Abel! I'm a big fan of Canon's wireless ETTL setup.
It's not perfect, but it's works pretty well for fast, on the fly shooting.

They redesigned the grip on the 1D3 - it should be more comfortable for smaller hands. You need to get her one of those too. And maybe another for backup purposes...

just got back from picking it up... man it is sweet...

a bit bigger body wise than the older 580 and all of the weather seals are very cool. theres a lock on the shoe and on the battery door...

HCE has only one left now...

They are not supposed to ship until next week to any of the dealers, according to our Canon representative. However, all of our first shipped allotment are pre-sold.

may have to put my regular 580ex up for sale and get a second 580exII... hmmm thats a thought.

I don't want to step on HCE toes, but Ft. Worth Camera may have a few units that aren't spoken for yet.
