A little Canon help please! - 05-29-2007, 06:47 PM

Here is where I show my Canon ignorance.

I have a customer with a 1Ds Mark II that is wanting to do custom white balance adjustments using an ExpoDisc. From a brief scan of the manual, it doesn't seem that this is a possibility. All the manual talks about is shooting a white object, adjusting the camera until the shot actually looks white and then applying it to the previously shot photos???

Surely on a $8,000 pro-digital SLR, you can create custom white balance settings prior to the shoot. Please tell me what an idiot I am and, if you could, please be very detailed in any instructions that you might be able to provide (remembering the aforementioned idiot reference and the fact that I need to pass this info on to my customer in a way that "I" will need to explain it).

Any help you can provide will be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

What Chaz said...

Basically you take a picture of whatever you want to be white - fill the frame with the white object - and then in the menu, go to "Custom White Balance" and select the photo you just took. The camera will set the CWB based on that picture. Then, change the white balance mode on the back of the camera to the Custom setting, and you're off to the races!
