you're going to like Colorado picture wise (assuming you do COLD)...where are you going to be?
in addition to Glenwood, a couple of must see places in texas... Byzantine Fresco Chapel Museum - located in Houston at the St Thomas University campus, "The Byzantine Chapel holds the only thirteenth-century Byzantine frescoes in the Americas, presented in a consecrated setting. It is a sister museum to The Menil Collection, both established by Dominique de Menil."
The Rothko Chapel is across the street and worth a look-see (both are free admission btw) Menil at a Glance painted churches (2 hours, Lavaca & Fayette County) There are more, search the threads for info... Butterflies- Museum of Natural Science
assuming you're traveling up 45 on the way, stop at Waxahachie and see the faces...
just to name a few... | | | |

Big Bend
After that, Palo Duro Canyon on your way north.
Good luck! Have fun! I'm envious. Leaving Houston is a blessing.

If you were staying in the Houston vicinity (i.e. an hour or so circle around Houston): I'd say Downtown, Glenwood, Galveston (the Strand, the Elissa and the beaches - you'll be far from the ocean in Colo), Nasa & Kemah, and Brazos Bend (get some gators - but this time of year they are all hiding/hibernating).
If you want to travel a little further: San Antonio: Missions, Riverwalk, and colonial style buildings.

I would agree with Zebulus on Glenwood Cemetery. This past December 4th the day it snowed I was in the cemetery. The large snow flakes drifted down over the Hughes plot as I stood there and how I wished I had my camera.
It was one of those moments lost in time not to be captured...
I also think Rice University and NASA have some photo opps I would not want to leave Texas without.

Your timing is off, but every ex-Texan now living in Colorado has at least one shot of themselves or their family/spouses in a field of bluebonnets. Guess you'll have to come back in the spring.

if i was moving from houston to colorado, the only thing i would want to photograph are the lights out on my empty house.
skip conifer, go for golden. confier is further up in the mts than you probably think. golden is perfect, at the base of a mt, 15-20 mins to downtown denver...mmm...golden. i lived there for 4 years, so i'm a bit partial. you just have to put up with all the nerds and beer, if that is your thing.
having lived in 9 states over the course of my relatively short life, you will find that once you move away, you'll come back and do all sorts of things and think, why didn't i do that while i lived here. have fun. as wayne said, i'm envious!!

I'm jealous too, but I may be too Texan to move to another state although I can talk like a midwesterner, and often do without thinking. I'm also jealous of the Houstonians from time to time. I remember from when I lived there the concerts in Herman park and the Natural History museum, and I see all of the great photos from BBSP posted on this site. I just have to remember that traffic, which must only be worse now. Any freeway in Houston at 2am is more crowded than the one freeway in Abilene at rush hour.

I am excited about all the new things to photograph out there!!!

You could always shop on the side of Denver that looks like Kansas. Nobody wants to live there.
