Stolen XTI camera, reward if found. - 01-17-2010, 11:26 AM

Hello,

This is my first post on this forum, i have been a lurking around for a while but never posted up.

Tuesday night my Canon XTI was stolen at "Loggia" bar in Town Center of Sugar Land. The serial number is 0620303491 and the pop up flash on the camera does not work. It had an attached BG-E2 grip with one canon battery and one generic battery. It also had a Sandisk Ultra II 2 GB card inside, and a 50 mm F1.8 lens with no lens cap and the lens itself has a big spec inside the glass near the center.

I have already reported it to Sugar Land Police, and have viewed the security cameras inside the bar and will retrieve them this coming week.

I am offering a $200 reward for a lead to an arrest, or me knocking on their door. The pictures on that CF card are priceless for me

Oh and yeah, i am looking for a 30D or 40D as a suitable replacement (PM me)

Thanks for reading!

Sorry to hear this, good luck on finding the jagoff that took it. I hope you find it in the street a few feet from what is left of the thief after he gets mowed down by an 18 wheeler :-)

Man I hate hearing things like this! Right now there are a number of 40d's and one 30d that I can think of for sale here on TPF.

Maybe it will turn up next to Cornbread's gear.

Please explain where the stuff was. In the bar? In your vehicle? It makes a difference.

It was in the bar.

The good news is that they know who it is, the manager called him, told him to come in, and they talked. Guy says he was too drunk to remember anything and that he lost the camera (i call complete bull**** on that). Anyways he told the manager he is willing to compensate me for the camera and the manager made a copy of his I.D and retrieved his number. He gave me the number so i can "work it out with him." At this point, i don't know if i should report him or if i should give him a call and see if he would work it out, which i doubt.

If there is anyone here with criminal justice knowledge, could i still report him and then get money out of him whether it be through compensation or through suing?

If it is truly the memory card and the images that you really care about, you will have to deal with him directly and work out a deal or something -- possibly forgiving the transgressions in exchange for the memory cards -- and this would most likely be "under the table" so-to-speak. If you bring law enforcement / courts into the matter I suspect that the camera + memory cards would never be recovered. This is just my pure speculation though, I am by no means qualified to give anyone legal advice.

you can't place a monetary value on sentiment.

i'd call the guy. if he's a jerk, call the cops. if he's cool...get your money. i would write the pics off. learn your lesson. expensive cameras, booze and busy social scenes don't mix.

I love how businesses are so fast and effective in stopping photoshoots yet can't provide decent security for their customers.

Quite simple: "Please find and return my camera within 3 days, no questions asked. If not, we get the po-po." I have a feeling that camera will turn up fairly quickly.
