Performing Arts Photographers?? - 01-19-2010, 09:41 PM

I think I posted a question like this about a year or more ago, but I need up-to-date and local information. Last time I was asking for national photographers, but this time I need Houston based photogs who specialize in the performing arts.

I'm looking more for live-action photogs who shoot rehearsals and live events on stage, not just studio/group shoots. I'm also looking for some of the lesser-known photogs.

Here are a few that I have already found who photographed the Houston Ballet or Houston Opera in their pasts, but mostly photograph celebrities or commercially now.

Pam Francis, Amitava Sarkar, Jim Caldwell, Drew Donovan.
Sakar is based is Austin and specializes in art related photography in general, though he does come across Houston Ballet opportunities once in a while.

I'm looking for photogs who photograph performing arts on a regular basis, and they do not need to be of world-renowned performers like the Houston Ballet, although that is a plus.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

(For the curious, I am a recent graduate and will be sending out letters of reference for internships. Looking to get my feet wet in the world of professional performing arts. I have always photographed local high-school studios but would like to broaden my horizons.)

Are you looking to hire a photographer? That's what it sounds like.

Ya I realize the wording is kinda off; I wasn't feeling real great that day. But no, I'm just looking to get to know some of the performing arts photographers in our area, hopefully learn a thing or two from them. As an internship, if you will. I'm starting graduate school in May so I've got some downtime right now to study under some of the locals.

I'm not sure if James Wiseman is still doing dance performing arts or not but he has a great deal of knowledge shooting them.

His site gallery: James Wiseman's Smugmug Galleries

Also Todd Spoth but he is a freelancer that does everything: www.toddspoth.com
