Meetup Film Crawl V : Planning post - 02-28-2010, 12:06 AM

Its time to start putting together Film Crawl V (Our highest numbered Film Crawl yet!)

Hopefully by this time we will have wild flowers to shoot in the morning.

We have an offer of a place to gather for lunch and a Development by Inspection Demonstration by a fellow Film Crawler in College Station.

In the afternoon there are many historic communities to shoot and visit.

I am asking for recomendations for morning and afternoon shooting locations.

I am going to recomend shooting in the afternoon & evening in Independence TX. Digging the Independance website there seem to be a number of historic sites to shoot there. The people of Independance light up six of their historic buildings which should make for some nice evening shots. (Sunset for these dates will range from 7:30 to 7:45.)

I marked the dates that I'm available. Well no, that's not quite correct. I didn't mark the dates that I know I'm not available. Like I said the other night at the GTG, March will be kinda tricky for me, because I do want to go to spring training in Florida. Not sure if or when I'll make it, and I can't even see April yet. I guess what I'm saying is don't really factor me in on any final decision. If I'm in town, and if it's not one of my for sure can't make it days, I'll probably make it.

BTW, April 10th and 11th are the dates of the Chappell Hill Bluebonnet Festival. I'm not saying that's good or bad: It's just a fact. It's good, if we want to include Chappell Hill in the day's activities. It's bad, if we don't want to get caught up in the crowd and the traffic and the beer! It's kinda like the Montgomery Wine Fest, but on a much larger scale and a much smaller venue. There are a few neat things to shoot there, but we might want to just avoid the Chappell Hill/Brenham area entirely, if we go that weekend. In order to avoid that area, though, we would probably want to go to Independence through (dare I say it?) NAVASOTA! (Gee, where have we heard that song before?)

And dare I mention this little factoid? About 10 miles south of Independence on FM 50 is the Antique Rose Emporium:

The Antique Rose Emporium

Sooooo, if anyone is in the market for rose plants, they have a great inventory. I think we bought around a dozen plants from them when we moved into our house 10 years ago. It's really a neat place.

April 10th it is.
Expect to see details later this week. If you have suggestions for places to shoot you are still free to chime in.

I'm probably not going to make this afterall. I will be in meetings until 5PM on Friday, the 9th in Our Nation's Capital, and likely won't fly home until Saturday. If the itinerary for the crawl is interesting enough, I suppose I could come home Friday night ...

Hi! I'm new to the site and just jumping back into the photography world and this thread sounded interesting. Can someone give me some details about what the Film Crawl is and if I can get in on it? Thanks!
