I am going to Houston for a week in Oct for a training class. Specifically, it's in Bellaire. I know where that is, but have no idea of the area. Any hotel suggestions???? Company paid so I'm not overly concerned with price but I would like it in a good area without having to fight traffic to get to my class each day.
TIA!

The Galleria is nearby. Where is your class in Bellaire?

It is at the Alphaware Training Center at 4710 Bellaire Blvd. I've found some hotels nearby according to the map but I've driven in Houston enough to know that nearby is relative and it doesn't tell me anything about the area. Thanks!

Most of the traffic is on 59 and the Galleria area, so if you stay south of those two then you're OK I say.

Your class is at Bellaire and the 610 Loop. The Gallerias is only a few miles away with plenty of hotels and photo opportunities. Traffic can be a problem in that area so plan accordingly.

i lived @ 59 and 610 after katrina. If you're going to stay at a hotel in the galleria, I would suggest something on sage. there is a homewood suits, a courtyard and a hilton garden inn next to the gentleman's club. i always stayed at the homewood suites. that way you can escape by taking sage north or south to either westheimer or richmond or hildago east out to post oak or the 610 feeder. i could even make it to memorial park in about 10-15 minutes during peak rush hour. plus, there are plenty of eating establishments around. and if you wanted to shop at the mall, it's within walking distance.
jmo. i agree with marius, anything south of 59 is ok. you just want to stay inside the loop and not get too far south.

To add: "the loop" is 610, if you are not familiar.
Good luck finding a place to stay.

Stay off of Sam Houston Tollway/Beltway 8. There are plenty of "Decent" hotels that are safe and very close either way of bellaire you plan on going. No traffic is a plus but you will either travel via tollway or feeder road.

If you are going to have a car and price is not a major consideration, stay at Hotel Derek. It is a Galleria mainstay.
Alternatively, the Westin Galleria is a high-end place as well, connecting directly to the galleria.

i would avoid staying in galleria like the plague if the training class will be on weekdays. galleria traffic can be a nightmare during morning and evening rush hours.

For those of you who suggested areas to get a hotel, and specifically Sage, thank you! I rented a hotel at the Courtyard on Sage (safe area, clean business-class). I can get to and from class without EVER having to get on a freeway. THANK YOU! I briefly thought the drive the airport would be my last. Four freeways and not knowing where I was going and more importantly, what lane to be in, was nerve-wracking at best. BTW, trying out Google maps on your phone is great but it's best not to try it for the first time in H-town!
