A good Pumkin Patch in Houston area? - 10-08-2010, 10:17 PM

Does anyone know where I could take a couple sets of kids to a pumkin patch to take Fall pictures? I know some pumpkin patches are funny about photographers being there, so just curious. Anywhere in the Houston area is good. Thanks.

Not sure what you meant about set of kids but the Matt Family Orchard up in Tomball has a collection of pumpkins as well as Asian persimom. I reckon as long as you buy their produce they wouldn't mind you shooting there. It will be a bit awkward though to bring strobes and reflectors given that its a high traffic area.

If you meant to do a sitting, green screen is a safer bet, heck maybe you can contact Heather from Orange Peel Background and have her make a pumpkin patch backdrop just for ya.

+1 for DewBerry. Try to go as soon as they open so you arent dealing with the afternoon mayhem after all the kid's soccer, football and baseball, etc. games are done.

This nice weather, its going to be a zoo the later it gets into the day.

Yeah, we went to Dewberry last Saturday around 5 pm. My 2 year old had a blast and I got some good shots, but we weren't focused on the pumpkin shots as we were the year before. The pumpkins were still pretty scattered, so you'll have to do some collection and setup. I wouldn't worry about the crowds in the actual patch.

Pack light as the pumpkin patch is a good walk from the entrance (of course there is a tractor/wagon that takes you on a tour and lets you off in the pumpkin patch). The other thing I would mention is that it does have admission prices, so if that is a concern...
