Shooting in a bar/club location - 11-10-2010, 10:20 PM

Hey Guys,

I wanted to know if any of you guys know of a place, club or bar look, where I can shoot in Houston for cheap or a reasonable cost.

I have some leads with some places, but was looking for other places to use and get a look I really want to aim for.

I know I have to pay a club owner for some time in their off-time hours, just would like to talk to people that will give me a reasonable offer for using their location.

I want a location that isn't too run down either, well kept.

Thanks for any info in advance guys.

Just call the clubs up and talk to their managers and see what they say, if you toss in some great shots of the interior without the model that they can use on their website they may cut the price that they want or may let you in for free.

Yeah ... I have done that with a few. Have 2 owners that will let me use the place for free ... but their places aren't what I am looking for on this particular shoot.

I have a feeling I will be paying about 100 bucks per hour.

I would avoid a few clubs/bars (including restaurants) that disallow DSLR cameras - even if collaborating with a publication e.g. magazine or newspaper. I learned the hard way several times where club owners/managers consider the SLR camera as the equivalent of a loaded firearm where applicable laws are enforced (within the confines of the establishment) - hence the 'right to refuse service' doctrine.

Some clubs, restaurants, bars et.al. can enforce camera bans (only for professional-grade equipment from a consumer-level to professional camera body) -- in other words, there are no such thing as 'diplomatic immunity' when showing up lock-n-loaded for a photoshoot.
