Houston Zoo Photo Day - Dec 18

This is a discussion on Houston Zoo Photo Day - Dec 18 within the Houston forums, part of the Texas category; I'd love to get my hands on the 70-200mm IS II for this...

I have been privileged to do this on two occasions without having to pay. It sounds nicer than it really is. On both occasions, one in July and the other in November, the animals weren't really out and about, and the workers are in abundance with leaf blowers and such. I imagine on an advertised zoo day, the crowds could be larger than desirable.

I went last May and it was wonderful. Most of the animals were available right away and the others were up and out by around 8am. They let us into the reptile house at 9 (open to general public at 10), so that was a perk also. We had 2 "photo ops" where a zoo employee brought an animal(s) over for closeups. The first was some kind of antelope (which was ok), but the second was an owl and could get super-closeup shots.

I was having so much fun I skipped the talk, but that's included in the price. I thought it was well worth the money.

Have some photos at Picasa Web Albums - Deanna - zooPrint . I'd love to go again!
