I am curious too.

I would think no more than 300mm, even with birds, as you can get real close.

You can get pretty darn close with just a 70-200

I went yesterday; this isn't even cropped.

is it for one specific exhibit? and I dont have a 300, but if I bring a 400 is that too close?

You get access to the entire zoo; the thing is you get in at 7am...general admission for everyone else is not till 9am.

So you get 2 hours with fewer people in your way to get the shots you want.

With a 400 you'll probably get some great "in your face" shots. I'd go for it.

Is this worth $40? Has anyone seen any of the exhibit yet or heard about it from other people?

I'll take the cold over sweating like I did in June.

I agree that 70-200mm is a good choice, although I would take some extra reach if I could afford it.
