out of curiosity, how long of lenses do you need for this?

I am curious too.

I would think no more than 300mm, even with birds, as you can get real close.

You can get pretty darn close with just a 70-200

I went yesterday; this isn't even cropped.

is it for one specific exhibit? and I dont have a 300, but if I bring a 400 is that too close?

I'm 80% since it's early enough to where I can make it back home to get more work done

You get access to the entire zoo; the thing is you get in at 7am...general admission for everyone else is not till 9am.

So you get 2 hours with fewer people in your way to get the shots you want.

With a 400 you'll probably get some great "in your face" shots. I'd go for it.

Is this worth $40? Has anyone seen any of the exhibit yet or heard about it from other people?

It's going to be pretty darn cold that morning (by Houston standards)!

I'll take the cold over sweating like I did in June.

I agree that 70-200mm is a good choice, although I would take some extra reach if I could afford it.
