House of Blues - camera? - 01-19-2011, 08:27 AM

I've searched the forum but found no direct answers. Anybody been to the House of Blues in Houston for a concert and brought along a camera? I'm seeing Joe Satriani tomorrow night and would really like to bring the SLR with 70-200 lens. I'm not brave enough though. I'll probably just bring the G12. Think I can get away with that?

Unless you have a photo pass, they wont let you in with a DSLR, just take G12. Avoid the headaches of going back to your car to take your camera and expensive lens. And avoid thinking of someone breaking into your car and steal your gear. Been there, done that.

not sure about hob houston, but the one in dallas won't allow SLR's without a photo pass. luckily the few times i've been to see local bands i was actually doing pictures for the bands, so i was hooked up. they also let me use a mono pod....

HOB is pretty tough on camera control even in New Orleans during Jazzfest when there are a few special nights with old semi-retired musicians playing (Jazz players don't totally retire till they are in the ground).

Found this on the LiveNation website for the venue:

Camera Policy:

Personal cameras are allowed in the venue. Flash photography, video and removable lens cameras are not permitted without venue approval.

Guess I'll pack the G12 and see what happens.

HOB has one of the worst ever photo contracts I have ever seen.... To give you an idea..I shoot for Getty Images and and their celeb. off shoot WireImage.. and they told me they (Getty) want nothing to with them....very restrictive as to what can be done with them...and not worth the hassle. Just take the G12

Joe Satriani - 01-19-2011, 10:13 PM

I work at House of Blues Houston and can confirm that the camera policy that you found is enforced.

"Personal cameras are allowed in the venue. Flash photography, video and removable lens cameras are not permitted without venue approval."

I hope you enjoy the Satriani show tomorrow. He put on an amazing show the last time he was here!

Took the G12. If I got any keepers I'll post. Balcony was a little far for the range.

I wonder what the policy will be in Dallas on Saturday since they are doing a Burlesque show?

Here's one shot with the G12 from the balcony. Nosie reduction with Nik DeFine, and some touch up with Nik Color Efex Pro. They didn't seem to be enforcing the no flash rule.
