KATY Night SpotsThis is a discussion on KATY Night Spots within the Houston forums, part of the Texas category; I was wondering if there are any pretty lit areas of Katy that I can do a bit of night ...

I was wondering if there are any pretty lit areas of Katy that I can do a bit of night time shooting at.
Some nice night lights like in the Woodlands.
Thanks.

There is the red airplane navigation light on top of the rice driers, the sodium vapor lights from the mall, and I think a few of the traffic lights on Katy-Hockley Rd start to blink after 9:00PM, but I haven't found much else! LOL! But I've only lived here for 19 years so I'm interested to see what people come up with...

thanks guys ... ummm ... I don't drive Katy much.
So the only places I know of are Katy Mills and Track 21 on HWY6 (N. of i10)
So, ... do I just google Katy Rd and Hockley Rd?
Sodium Vaport Lights?
And Red Airplane Navigation Light? ...
Sorry ... but where are the 2 locations?
I live in Sugarland ... but wanted to do some shots in Katy when I go visit a friend who lives there.

Actually, there are some "industrial" looking places east of the historic area (where the old Katy RR station and MKT caboose is). I have been over there a number of times but just can't seem to find any place where you can get close enough to use them. Perhaps a few of the other local Katy folks may have a few ideas...
There is an open air mall on 99 a few miles south of Katy, similar to the one in Sugar Land, and it has a central fountain area, but I don't know about shooting there or if it is lit at night.

La Centra or the Villagio both are small open air strip centers....a great place to shoot...for lights is actually the median going south on 99 long exposures come up with some rather cool shots with a wide angle lens and a little of overcast...I would also just drive down Mason Road south of I-10 not really an uniformity to the way the buisness have put lights up...so you can get some really cool shots...at night...
Good Luck..

When you say Woodlands I think of the Woodlands mall area with shopping. if that is the case then Tony gave you a few good spots in La Centera and The Vellagio.

Yeah, I live there myself, and....i usually go elsewhere to shoot. Yeah maybe the caboose and grain dryers, but IMO, those are about the ONLY two things there (fortunately they're close to one another) but again, IMO - blah...
and Katy Hockley is one road. it blends into Katy Hockley Cutoff, for what that's worth.. La Centerra is...just a buncha rich people. Nothing special there, I say, go downtown Houston. Thats where all the interesting stuff is at. | | | |

The Firethorne neighborhood just south of I-10 has a nice area near the club house. 2 large fountains, a 2 level small lake / large pond with rocks, large deck with outside fireplace, very large oak tree lit at night. I shoot there a lot! ;-) I have some really nice long exposure shots from there.
Also, further down 1463 where they just connected Cinco Ranch Blvd, go east on C.R. Blvd and they have devoped some very nice water/walking spaces.
I would love to meet up on a Saturday night and take pictures around Katy.

Hmmm ... I will have to check those places out as well.
On the comment of downtown ... I have shot a few things downtown, was just looking for more things outside of downtown.
