Locations for Downtown Houston for a Senior shoot - 04-04-2011, 03:14 PM

I'm scheduling a shoot with my niece who want some Senior shots taken. I want to do a little bit of lifestyle as well.

Anyone have any recommendations on places to shoot Downtown?

Are there any restrictions when shooting in the Downtown Area? Oh, and cheers for the suggestion.

While looking for interesting backgrounds, also keep your eyes open for where the light is great. The two below were shot at the entrance to one of the parking garages in the theater district. If you want a mix of urban and more natural (trees, grass, etc.) images, Sam Houston Park is a great place for the less urban-y looks, it has a pond, huge lawn and old houses with porches that provide great directional light.

If you are downtown, the waterfall beside the Wortham Center (I think that's the location) might work. The promenade along the bayou at the foot of the waterfall might be good too.

hey adrian. dont forget the older brick walls and fire escape stairwells we saw in the historic district on the most recent TPF walk.

theres also a nice area by the George Bush statue across the bayou from the Wortham that provides a nice downtown backdrop.

Put the coordinates in google maps

Jones Plaza - +29° 45' 40.74", -95° 21' 56.91"
Discovery Green - we walked through there during the Photowalk
Off by Prairie - a few blocks away from Jones Plaza - +29° 45' 48.66", -95° 21' 58.57"
The first parking lot we walked through by Cabo possibly?
Graffiti Wall - 29.73940333,-95.37164833

When near the Opera House (across from Hard Rock), make sure to take the stairs down to the Bayou - that is Sesquicentennial Park - lot's of neat places there to shoot - but bring flashes since it's usually in shadow.

Thanks everyone for the continued suggestions. I've scouted some of the places and they look great!
