Clear Lake photo ops? - 07-01-2011, 01:45 PM

Hi... I'm 15 and I live in the clear lake area in Houston... My photo opportunities are majorly dependent on my mom's schedule since she is my bank and chauffer... I was wondering if there's anyone who knows what some good places to practice photography around (anything is great!!)... Thanks.

Hello and welcome! I work in the Clear Lake area, and I know Craig (craigb456) lives around here. I bet he'd have some suggestions since he shoots around here more than me.

Get Mom to take you up Old 146 north of Seabrook, you can get some shots of the bay, and some of buildings still showing Hurricane Ike damage.
You can also get some good practice around the marinas-lots of sailboats, etc.
A walk around the Kemah Boardwalk is good, too.

take a walk, and photograph around your hood, you would be amazed at what you find, it's also very good practice.

Lauryn, you weren't by any chance in band at WIS were you? If so, you probably know one or both of my sons. One's going to be a freshman and the other a junior at CSHS and both went to WIS. I'm wondering if you're the same Lauryn that was in band with them at WIS.

If you're serious about photography, I can always use an extra set of hands on some of my shoots and teach you a bit along the way if you're interested. I had a student I was mentoring from CLHS last semester, but she graduated and is headed off to college now.

Send me a PM.

My powers of deduction tell me that yes, you are the Lauryn I'm thinking about. I'm the mom that Mr. Brockway always had taking photos of the band. (Matthew- horn, Ryan - trombone) If you ever want to accompany me on some of my shoots, let me know.

Clear Lake's all filled with all sorts of funsies! What do you enjoy shooting, or just feeling everything out right now?

Armand Bayou has a bunch of stuff that's just laying around, and some great trails. Old Seabrook, start near the 146/ NR1 intersection, and end up around the Port of Houston. I wound up about those parts after an assignment in Seabrook and spent a good couple of hours out there.

No matter how tempting it is, the mansion at NR1 and Space Center Blvd. is private property, and you will be shouted at by a fellow who's still on the property. And he will call the police on anybody otherwise. There are some CL students who had the court date and citation to prove such.

I grew up in Clear Lake (and home for the holidays/summer), there's a couple of TPF, oops, Pixtus, people around these parts. And go ahead and get to know Mrs. Wendy, one of my assistants always goes on and on about how nice she is
