Thumbs up Shell Houston Open... - 03-14-2007, 01:04 PM

...will be March 26 - April 1. I spoke to a PR man out there and he told me that photography and cameras of all kinds are permitted at Redstone March 26-27 and entry is FREE, they're having a Pro-Am tournament those first two days. However photography is prohibited March 28 - Aprill 1. To those of you who are interested in some sport photography and maybe a photo of your fav golf pro...this is the time.

I'm bummed about the camera thing for the actual tournament days...however the Pro-Am tournament ought to have some great PGA players.

Not a lot of "greats" coming to play this year. Defending champ Stuart Appleby will be there. Vijay Singh is NOT playing last I heard. There is a chance this could be the first tourney back for John Daly who hurt his ribs when a fan fired off a shot with her camera during his back swing during REAL play. I'm not sure I'd want to be around him with a camera.

David Toms, Adam Scott, Steve Stricker, KJ Choi are some other good golfers who have commited.

how close can you get to the action

most likely you'll have to have a zoom to get a good shot? i think i'll have to use my 18-200mm

Right next to them pretty much on the tee box. I shot exclusively with 70-200IS F2.8.

Be sure you know the rules of proper golf etiquette (don't shoot while they are in backswiing, respect their space, when putting wait until the ball is struck prior..etc..) if not, you may have someone (or the player) come down on you. Typically, ProAms are very laid back, and they'll sign autographs and such.. But they HATE a shutter click during the backswing...

Have a good time and share some pics!
