West University area - 05-27-2008, 06:36 PM

I'm taking my son to a Chiropractor in the West University area and was wondering if there are any good spots for photos? We are going twice a week for the next two weeks.
Thanks in advance

on the southwest corner of the intersection of fanin and holcombe, there is a pretty little area that looks like a well-decorated business park with water fountains and such. but it is definitely a small area, so i can't imagine spending more than one or two trips there.

Jennifer
I agree Fanin and Holcom will be limited to just a couple of shoots. You are so close to Rice and the herman park area which expands the opportunities that it might be worth a few minutes to go there.

Could be some good opportunities in the not remodeled part of Rice Village like the old Half Price Books storefront etc..

West U Elementary on University Blvd. is a pretty area and the Rice Village has some great spots on the old and new sides.

If you throw your back out toting gear, at least help will be available.

just remember that rice university technically doesn't allow you to take pictures there unless you buy a permit, iirc.

i was also hassled by a herman park security guard for taking pictures with a SLR...long story short, she wasn't convinced that i wasn't a professional only because i was using a SLR, and ordered me to stop. not trying to change the topic, but just wanted for you to be aware in case it happens to you.

I had known about Rice Un. but Herman Park really? I doubt they would think I was a pro. being that I would be trying to juggle my 2 kids with no help. But they don't want you taking pictures there? Thanks for the heads up.

Your also pretty close to the museum district. There are some nice spots to take a few shots.
I'm going museum hopping tomorrow. Hope I can get a few nice captures.

technically you are allowed to (as of now), but the policy may be changing soon. there is actually another thread in the "Houston" forum discussing it somewhere...

i think the problem in my situation was just that the particular overzealous security guard was not informed properly.
