Question Good Farmer's Markets to shoot in? - 11-15-2008, 10:01 PM

Hey all,

Has anyone found any good Farmer's markets in Houston? I'd like to take some candid photos in one for a school project, but I can't seem to find any good websites for them (just directions!). If you know of any in the Galleria area or downtown, please let me know. pictures would be great too!

Thanks,
Sarah

There's one in Katy. That's all I know. I heard someone talking about it on PBR.

I think you'll need to get out of Houston to find good ones. Just guessing, but I would think that Hunstville or Madisonville would have them. Wrong time of year right now. Wait until spring.

There is a Farmers market at Huffmeister and Hempstead. I've never been but there are signs for one near Kirby and Richmond (Eastside I think).

Huffmeister & Hempstead? I live there (almost-real close) and haven't noticed. Wait, is that the place behind a fence that faces Hempstead just west of the light at Huffmeister? Under the water tower? There's a 24 hour taqueria at the light. I'll have to walk over there next weekend. Could be interesting.

Yeah, that's it. Kinda small on the northeast side of the intersection.

Canino's - 11-16-2008, 08:17 PM

some might not consider this a farmer's market, but it comes close & is very convenient to downtown
Canino's is located at the intersection of 45 and 610 North on Airline
behind the semi-enclosed store there are stalls with many small merchants
this will give you an idea

Name: Canino's Open Produce Market 01 TF.jpg

Size: 281.5 KB

unfortunately the front market took a big hit after Ike

Name: after Ike Canino's 01 bw TF.jpg
Views: 101
Size: 232.2 KB

but business is going strong in the stalls behind & repairs were underway to the front store when I visited last
Canino's is a great place to get nuts as well as fruits & vegetables
arguably the best Mexican bakery in Houston is just across the street, el Bolillo Panaderia

larger versions of these & more from the market can be found here ------> http://www.pbase.com/artichoke/houston&page=21 along with shooting information
hope this helps
