My dad is 84 and has problems with walking long distances, due to a stroke. Anytime they fly, I always contact the airline ahead of time and reserve a skycap to take him from check-in to the gate and then from the gate to baggage claim in a wheelchair. It works like a charm - no more worries about his walking long distances. If you haven't made her reservation yet, you can do it online @ SW at the time you get the ticket. Very easy!

We fly Bush all the time..I've never been anywhere in that airport where it was a short walk. I would highly recommend a sky cap with a wheel chair...

Oh no doubt I will request one for sure and for some reason the only airline I can find that flys into Love Field Direct is Continental, is there some sort of regulation stopping the other lines ?

SW flys Love, but they don't fly out of Bush, you have to fly out of Hobby to get SW in or out of Houston.

Not sure where the OP is located, but to me, flying out of Hobby is a major plus. I'd almost rather drive (anywhere) than have to fly out of Intergalactic. That airport is NOT set up for the convenience of the passenger, that's for sure. You can drop your mother off at the curb at IAH, but then she'll have to walk or wheel herself at least 1/2 mile or more through all the corridors and checkpoints to her gate. To me, Hobby is just much more convenient. And SW flies to Dallas ~ every hour or so from Hobby.

Right, SW used to fly into both Hobby and Intercontinental, but they pulled back from IC. I used to fly into both - depending on where I had to go in Houston, but 9 times out of 10, it was to Hobby. Unless she is located close to Intercontinental, I second flying Hobby to Love and, as I mentioned earlier, SW makes it really easy to arrange skycap assistance for an elderly traveler.

I believe Southwest was hit with an Anti-Monopoly lawsuit by the other airlines. The lawsuit restricted which airports Southwest could fly to.

To fly into an airport, you have to rent/lease the space. That's why Southwest flies into different airports than Continental, Delta, etc. If Southwest flew to DFW, Love, IAH and Hobby, they would have to raise their rates to pay for the extra space.

Why not just put her on a Southwest flight? Continental will fly Embraer 145s and Saab 9000's between Houston and DFW. I think it would be easier for her to get to her seat on a 737. She'd probably be more comfortable, also.

To pre-board with SW all you need to do is ask them. I'm 6'3, 320 with busted up joints. I don't intrude on other people's seat space, but I do have a problem with cramping and pain after sitting for long periods of time. Even though I'm only 25, they said it wouldn't be a problem to pre-board me.
