Hello, guys. I am thinking converting a camera into IR. I used lifepixel.com before to convert my previous IR camera, and the result is Ok. Now that I found out that precisioncamera.com offers this IR converting service with lower price (plus I could get discount for being PPA member), I would like to know if anyone has used their IR converting service before, and if someone could compare their result with lifepixel.com that would be very helpful.

I've not used nor heard anything about Precision's IR conversions. They may be fine, but over the last couple of years, there seem to have blossomed a number of "kitchen table" technicians offering IR conversions to meet an increasing demand and at lower prices than the longer existing conversion outfits: Maxmax and Lifepixel.

I've used both Maxmax and the newer breed. For the money, right now I'd repeat with Maxmax, or even Lifepixel. These companies have the technical experience, the facilities, and the desire to keep their reputations pristine; i.e., their professionalism is well established. IMO they are still worth the extra cost.

Good luck.

Precision did a top notch job on my A100. They are a professional repair center with all the righ ttooling and training. They had my A100 back to me within a hair over a week, with the AF and custom WB calibrated to the lens I sent in with it. Ask for Mark Soares (MSoares at precisioncamera dot com). He gave me updates when my camara was received, when it was modified, and when it was on its way back.

The price was $249 + shipping. The results were fantastic.

I could not go with Lifepixel or MaxMax because they wouldn't mess with the Sony/Minolta cameras with the in body IS, so I was out of luck until Mark spoke up.
