If you want the flash to ONLY provide IR light it can be modded, but I think it does provide a little if you use it as a standard flash. I have only done minor experimentation with my flash and IR. Maybe I'll have to try some more setups this weekend...

There's plenty of the IR spectrum in your regular flash, so give it a try.

You can also get special flashes that produce only IR.

I think you will be OK with your standard flash, give it a try and post up some of the results.

Thanks, Jerry. Do you set yours manually or do you find the flash will provide enough light on manual?

I have not done much. I just know that man-made light usually has a lot of the IR spectrum as well as the Visible.

Set your flash to fire at maximum and work from there.

IR really is an experiment, so have fun trying different stuff.

DeepEllum, digital cameras won't record IR Heat, but I suppose that you are referring to the light that they put off? I don't have a heat bulb, so have never tried that. Could be interesting.

You may have seen this on my IR Buzz:

http://irbuzz.blogspot.com/2008/07/s...be-joking.html

I didn't know what to expect, and actually expected to just enjoy the show, but, was surprised at how much IR was in the fireworks and city lights.

I think that is why I enjoy it so much.

An external flash....helps out better than the built in one....I use a Sigma 530DG Super and it does help....it provides ambient light...if you use several flashes...you can get that vien look when shooting people...

I will look-up some pictures to post I used with my flash and post them later today....

Normal flash with digital IR does work since the camera sensors see normal wavelengths also.

When I shot this photo I was losing light so I popped my SB800 onto my D100 and it gave me some fill and catch lights in the eyes also. I've since learned how to use available light with IR better and prefer that method.
