Very dramatic shot. I like it a lot!

Thanks much,

Man we have had some wild skies around my part of the state when it's not raining or blazing.

Jules, I like the image, however there are areas in the sky that are fried? Can't really understand the comments from others? Detail in the highlights is a must for an image like this.

Best regards, Ernst

Hi Ernst,

Actually you're a bit mistaken. You refer to over-sharpening I believe and that's not the case here. You are seeing IR skies at about 90 degrees from a low (late afternoon) sun. which is often the effect when shooting IR skies. IR will cut through haze fairly well in effect "swaps" visible subtlety for visible drama which is exactly what I was going for. IR can tend to punch the drama in B&W pics. (Note that IR also has an apparent much greater falloff so shadows and dark places almost always seem a bit to a lot more so dark.

It's similar to what you may be talking about, very strong "local contrast" where you use the amount at around 25 and the radius at around 250. However local contrast wasn't applied to this pic or any other sharpening/contrast enhancement except for the trees in the foreground and the smaller tree where I selectively sharpened the trees to pop them a bit.

Cheers

Jules
