Hi Ernst,
Actually you're a bit mistaken. You refer to over-sharpening I believe and that's not the case here. You are seeing IR skies at about 90 degrees from a low (late afternoon) sun. which is often the effect when shooting IR skies. IR will cut through haze fairly well in effect "swaps" visible subtlety for visible drama which is exactly what I was going for. IR can tend to punch the drama in B&W pics. (Note that IR also has an apparent much greater falloff so shadows and dark places almost always seem a bit to a lot more so dark.
It's similar to what you may be talking about, very strong "local contrast" where you use the amount at around 25 and the radius at around 250. However local contrast wasn't applied to this pic or any other sharpening/contrast enhancement
except for the trees in the foreground and the smaller tree where I selectively sharpened the trees to pop them a bit.
