Lightbulb Longwood Mansion - 11-22-2010, 05:23 PM

Longwood - located in Natchez, Mississippi is the largest octagonal house in America. An example of "Oriental Villa" architecture, the mansion was under construction in 1861 when the Civil War began. All that was completed was the shell; the interior remains in an unfinished state today, much like the Confederacy itself, as local residents are glad to remind tourists.

Bruce,
Thanks for these interesting photos of Longwood.

Do you know that the woodwork AND the body of the house were intended to ALL be the SAME color?--so that the mansion appeared to be made from stone? the stone would have been similar to the color shown, and the dome was and IS red.

Thanks, Michael, for your comment. My wife and I really enjoyed that house and its grounds: Longwood was the definite highlight of our Natchez visit last November.

Of course, the "faux" colors of IR photography almost always vary from those of the visible color spectrum. Here's another combination of "color."

HI,

You are welcome. I am from Natchez and have toured Longwood many times. It is the most visited house in Natchez. Is it possible for you to create a photo in which the body of the house and the woodwork are all the same color?? and the color is the same tan-beige shown on the stucco above? and the dome is red as shown? :)

I have tried to upload new photos of Longwood but they are too large.

Michael

Smile Visible Color - 03-28-2011, 10:39 PM

Michael, the previous photo with the red dome was as close to visible color as I could get in IR. Here for comparison purposes is a visible spectrum photo. Notice how the contrast in the sky has diminished.

BTW: keep your jpeg photos within these limits , and they should load right into your post:

These are awesome, Bruce. I've actually been there, it's quite a sight to see. Especially the unfinished insides. Standing in the middle of that second floor is impressive as can be.

Love your colors on these too.
