Love the inversion in #2. Im still having problems with getting the blue sky without changing everything in the foreground. With the mod on my camera everything is washed in red IR. I only have photoshop elements 2.0 with a a red/blue color swap plug in. Even then everything is washed in blue light afterwards. HELP!!!LOL

Smile White Balance - 01-05-2009, 08:10 PM

James, before taking a shot, be sure to set a "Custom White Balance" (CWB) off of something which appears white in infrared, e.g., green foliage; then, your files out of the camera should not have that excessive red tint.

Bruce, do you take the custom white balance with the filter on or off?

Lyncca, if the camera has not been converted to IR by having the internal hot mirror replaced by an IR filter, then screw the IR filter (e.g., Hoya R72) onto the camera's lens and then take the cwb.

Usually, cwb is taken in bright daylight off something visibly green which will appear white in the infrared spectrum, but like all things IR, experimentation with cwb can produce varying results. Right now, I'm using an 18% gray card to set a cwb for my converted Nikon D70 (665nm).

Nifty false-color image there. The color swap works well.
