Alabama Girl moving to Katy - 05-20-2009, 12:01 PM

Hey, y'all.

I am moving this summer to Katy after my wedding. It is going to be a big shock for me since I am coming from a small town in Alabama where my work has been fueled only by word of mouth.

I am not planning to work full time or open a studio when I move, but I am interested in still shooting and having something to do (to pay for the horse board ;) ).

I wanted to introduce myself and let anyone know I am willing to listen to your advice on my move, on finding some jobs to shoot or second shoot, or anything else.

Nice to meet you!

Andrea (Schomburg) ... soon to be Curran

Hi Andrea,

Welcome to TPF. Congrats on the wedding. We'll look forward to getting to know you online when you get moved. I'm sure Katy will be just like small town Alabama....except with traffic. Horrible, horrible traffic. :-D

There are tons of folks from the greater Houston area on here - they seem to have some really fun get togethers.

Welcome to our little slice of the world!

Lisa has stated the obvious, so you cant say you're surprised by the amount of traffic. Though I'm sure pictures speak louder than words. Anyone willing to provide a photo of Katy traffic? ;)

My fiance bought me a GPS so at least I will know where I am going when I am on the traffic. I am not used to traffic jams like what y'all have there at all. He has been there ten years and it doesn't phase him. It makes me nuts. I am going to have to keep something in the car to do when I cannot actually move the car down the freeway. LOL

Welcome Andrea, Hey even after living in Houston 21 years, then Austin for 8, coming back was quite a shock traffic wise. But you'll get used to it. Hope you can go to some of the TPF get-togethers.

I personallly think I-10 has improved in the way of traffic. Yeah, it's bad but not as bad as it was before the road construction. IMO
Welcome to Texas your going to love it here. It's one great state!

I'm just trying to figure out how Jim was shocked after coming from Austin :). I've never seen traffic that bad. I-35 through Austin is a joke.

And I would take Houston traffic over Dallas traffic any day.

Welcome to the board and to the Lone Star State. If you like shooting sports we are always looking for help!

I am more interested in enjoying everything there is to offer there than the traffic actually... LOL.. we went on a rabbit chase..

I mostly shoot children and weddings. I have tried to work on my sports skills since my daughter started riding horses competitively and also playing some softball. I would love to come along sometime.

Other than my fiancee's circle of friends (all single and not a lot in common with me), I will not really know anyone. I would love to come along to get togethers, etc. Thank you for the invitation. I am coming out this weekend and SO looking forward to being there. I think once I adjust, I will be SO happy.

It used to be on my list of things I wanted to do to get to VISIT Texas. Now I get to LIVE there. :)

Welcome to TPF Andrea - I live in Katy, and LOVE it! It's close enough to Houston to enjoy the benefits of living in the fourth largest city in the US... but far enough away to FORGET that you live close to the fourth largest city in the US.

They recently overhauled I-10 and the drive time from Katy into Houston is NOTHING like it was a few years ago.

There are LOTS of awesome places out here to do sessions, and we have a HUGE influx of people so there is a huge opportunity for doing enough sessions to pay for boarding your horse.

Feel free to email me - my username at yahoo dot com - and at least you'll know ONE person when you get here. I have two girls - a 22 month old, and a 12 month old.

Welcome!

Congrats on the wedding and moving out to Katy Texas!
Pretty soon ya'll be speaking like us Ma'ma!

Katy is nice, I have two accounts that I call on that are in Katy, Texas. One of them is Tractor Supply, I don't know if you have heard of them up in Alabama?
But they have cattle and horse products, that you can go to if you need something for them horses....

Welcome from Frisco! Well, Houston beats Minneapolis, where there are just two seasons, Winter, and Road Construction.

Andrea - Welcome! Where in Alabama are you from? I'm a Mobile native but moved to Dallas in 2001.

Well, I lived in Hutto and worked in Taylor. LOL Not much of a commute and no backups on Hwy 79.
