Cat lovin, skydivin, Texan here! - 12-10-2009, 07:51 PM

Well i'm sure there are a lot of newbies here from day-to-day - so here is one more to add to the mix!

Texan born & bred - originally from South Tx and currently up in Dallas...
Graphic designer by day - all around adventurer by night and weekend - attempting to squeeze every last drop of enjoyment from any given place and often recording it via (hopefully) stunning images and written word.

So, i write a lot, and take a lot of pictures. ;)

I've been doing photography with my little digital for the past few years - its been more of a casual hobby thing that i apparently talked about nonstop without fully realizing it just how much i was into it. So, smart man that he is, my main squeeze bestowed upon me a Nikon D5000 for my birthday this past Fall. Now, instead of merely walking around and shooting randomly, I'm taking the initiative to learn as much as I can about the field and see if this might eventually lead me to a *gasp of excitement!* career change and way out from cubicle hell! I am not made for a cubicle - but really none of us are!

Anywho, thats a bit about me in a nutshell. Would love to hear from some of you... if you actually made it this far - drop me a reply, link to your work, etc!

*sarah

Welcome from another newbie! Bet that's anticlimactic. I rock the graphic design/photographer lifestyle too but with this little pesky thing called school that keeps getting in the way.

Grats on the new camera and discovery of photography as your passion :)

Thankyou for the welcome!

School can definitely tend to get in the way if you're going for something other than your hobbies/passions - although now that i'm done i've starting going back voluntarily to continuing ed classes! lol go figure ;)

thx again!

Welcome from Frisco!

Skydiver, eh? All I know about that is:
1. A parachute is optional, but recommended to those who wish to improve.
2. Why would you want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?
3. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
4. You're good to the last drop.

Other than that, I share being a Texan with a cat. Actually, the cat has a Texan. He lets me think I have a cat.

Those who have never made a skydive, just can't get it...

1 - I prefer to carry two when I skydive. Although I've never had to use the second one.
2 - There is no such thing as a perfectly good airplane. Any pilot will tell you that.
3 - Point well made
4 - Same can be said of an alcoholic (not that all skydivers meet that description, but as a general rule, they all know how to party hard)

Thanks for all the warm welcomes folks! You guys rock! =)

Justin, fellow skydiver indeed! went for the first time this year, was instantly addicted! Planning to go again early next year - woohoo. i'd go every month if i could afford it. Do you dive frequently?

oh and a "lol" to Peter - the "luminous cat herder" haha!
Hope you're all having a fantastic Monday!

I'd probably go again but I'm in my fifties not my twenties (which means I know understand the term "mortality") anymore and I'd need a cargo rated chute
