With the D40, I mainly used Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority. With the D300; I find myself using Manual mode more often. It was a huge learning curve going from one camera to the other, but I am getting used to the 300.

I have heard that the book "Understanding Exposure" is a need to have for photography. Maybe I should look into getting a copy myself. Anyway, fire away with questions and I will try and answer at least some of them.
I am upgrading to a D300 now. I've purchased one used from the classified section on here! Can't wait until Monday or Tuesday for it to arrive!!!

So far it has been a bit of a learning curve. More finding where to set the stuff I am wanting to set being so much different from the D40.

I've been trying to shoot everything in manual mode and using manual focus, so I can force myself to learn without any shortcuts. That does get frustrating. I used a lot of Aperture and Shutter mode most of the time with the D40 to try and learn, but I'm gong all out now.

I did just start using the live view mode today for playing with close ups of flowers to get the focus right. I think my eyesight is starting to deteriorate, so I might need to look into glasses or something. My Girlfriend can focus the thing super sharp the first time trying it out where I have issues getting that sharpness manually focusing.

Congratulations on your D300. Have had mine for about six months and am still learning. I just don't have a lot of time to get out and shoot (at least lately anyway). When things slow down a bit, we should get together and pic each others brains

I have a couple of friends that also own the D300. It is a wonderful camera.

I'm getting more and more used to it. Just takes a little time I guess to get familiar. I try to always shoot in full manual mode and manual focus to force myself to learn and to reinforce things I should already know, and make myself think abotu all aspects of every shot. I'm not fast at all, but eventually I think it will pay off.
