Hello all, Christine here. I just joined this forum today. I am a junior at the University of Texas in Austin and have been casually interested in photography for a few years now. I originally shot with my Nikon D40x, but now use a D80 and am still getting the hang of my upgrade. I consider myself still in the learning process since it seems I have only skimmed the surface of the possibilities out there. Everyday I am learning new tips which is why I am excited about sharing my passion with others who can provide a nurturing environment to improve.

I will be leaving for France at the beginning of August and my goal is to buy my first prime lens before I leave. Even though the one I'm looking at isn't pricey as far as lenses go, I'm a broke college student and facing a tough choice : groceries or a new lens. Either way, hopefully I will come back with lots of pretty vacation shots to share.

Can't wait to get to know you!

Welcome to TPF! I'll let you take my 50 mm, 1.8 if I can have it back upon your return to the states. Either way it is great that at your age the travel bug bites, I found out
way too late in life, boo hoo.

Wow Hanky! That's very generous of you to lend me the 50mm if need be. Right now I have someone on craigslist who might sell me their 35mm f/1.8. I've been debating between the 50mm vs 35mm. After reading way too many forum posts all over the web and switching my mind only a hundred times, I still have no definite answer. Someday I think I'd like to own them both. Until then, I have my fingers crossed for this 35mm :). Looks like I need to stock up on Ramen noodles

I might lean to the 35 myself but I am sub amateur so I would only advise be careful on CL and consider that old lens grow moldy on the inside if not kept proper. Perhaps a rental might suit your purposes. Have a blast in France and post 'em when ya get back.
