Hello All,

My name is James Hickox and I live in Abilene. I am married, and I have 2 boys, ages 12 and 16.

I am starting to get into photography again after a long time away. The Olympus OM-1 was fairly new when I got it at age 17! (yes, I am an old fart!)

Anyway, Thanks to the bay of E, I now find myself in possession of a Pentax kit consisting of ZX-5 and *ist bodies, 80-200 mm F zoom and 35-80mm F zoom, Vivitar 283 flash and some misc. stuff.

I am starting to get used to the idea of just walking around on days off and shooting landscapes and animals to get back into the swing of things.

If anyone else in ther area knows of a club, or would like to just get together to talk pictures, let me know.

Hello James and Sidney, There is a club in the area I'm sure someone in the immediate area will check in. It's great to have another Pentaxian on the forum, we are a rare breed. One thing don't use the 283 directly on the ist. use a bay of e trigger for the flash.

Hey, James. I'm in Abilene too. The West Texas Photographic Society meets each third Thursday of the month in the Center for Contemporary Arts at 7:00 p.m. I've been a member for over ten years. We've got some great photographers in our group and we'd love for you to come. Every other month is competition night. September is one of those months. We have a theme and an open category. In either theme or open category the photos may be entered as either color, black and white or enhanced. The photos entered have one side that is at least ten inches long, and they are matted in a white mat that is 11x14. The most common photo sizes are 8x1o and 8x12. You can find out more about us at Marty's web site, Photography, Wildlife, Nature, Fine Art- Martin Pothier. Hope to see you there!

Some people who are new to the West Texas Photographic Society (WTPS) club like to attend a competition before entering, and others jump right in. Those that jump right in often beat the pants off of the old timers.

Drove to Abilene and Dyess, AFB a few months back. Was waved on. Reason was to see the static display aircraft from the fifties and sixties. My photography was less than stellar. A wider lens and a walker would have helped.

Zoom in on Arnold Blvd to see the planes and layout.

I've been by those planes. I used to teach Geology 101 on base before 911. Now and then I'd bring a bunch of Kodachromes and Ectachromes to class.

No, Linda. It was locally organized a couple of decades ago and has no affiliations with TPPA. Most of the members are amateurs but there are a few pros. The majority don't do people photography.
