Hello TPF - 12-19-2010, 11:24 PM

Hi, my name is juan and Im photoholic

Im glad to find such a cool forum I been browsing around for a dew weeks but never got to registered...
I owned a Nikon D80 for about 3yrs, love it, this was my 1st DSLR, I bought it brand new from EBAY it came with sigma lense (70-300mm 1:4-5.6 DG and 28-70mm 1:2.8-4 DG D), a flash (never got it to work), a made in china battery (cheap but lasted 2.5yrs) and some other things

I bought the camera when we had our 1st baby and is been great for family pictures and parties, now he plays sports and for tball and soccer it was fine, but he is playing basketball now and Im not happy at all with my pictures... I know is because off poor light in the gym... So I need some help

Beside the D80 kit, I have a SB-600, nikon 35-80mm 1:4-5.6 and a nikon 50mm 1:1.8d

So help me out
*I want to get a new camera for back up for the D80 it has 25k shutters, Im leaning towards the D5000 ( budget around 500-650)?
* If I understand right the VR lenses help out in low light so I want to get either the kit lens 18-55mm vr and/or 55-200mm vr (within the same budget) for the night shots and indoor stuff?
* Should I not get a back up and just get better glass ?
*or sale what I have and start new?

Sorry if too much to ask in one thread and if this is not right mods pls feel free to guide me the right way

BTW My name is Juan, Im in SA, have two kiddos and love them and my wife... help me convince her ;)

Thanks Happy Holidays

Welcome from Frisco!
The D80 is not bad, so think about the lenses and look around about the low light techniques that serve you the best. The wife has her points, too. She may be more objective about the budget that you. Not always, just sayin'.
