Amateur Digital Photographer - 02-23-2011, 11:57 AM

Greetings all from Houston. While I have lived in several states around this beautiful country, I am a 4th generation Texan. My hobbies (besides photography) are genealogy, cemeteries, and graphics such as making forum signature tags, mostly animated.

I have two grand daughters (ages 3 & 4) who I care for while my daughter works.

When the Nikon Cool Pix 5100P came out, I bought one and it was great for about 6 months. Then it just went black. I tried everything I could to fix it and then just put it in the drawer and bought this little Kodak EasyShare. It doesn't do all that I want it too and it is starting to give me trouble with the "dancing" (jerky?) lens but most of the time it works.

Had I known back in high school (Beaumont, TX) how much I would love photography, I would have gone in that direction.

My purpose in joining this forum is to learn and to share.

Try going to big social events in your area, and maybe concerts.

If you are genuine and nice to people you see and find interesting try asking them if you minded if you take their picture. Most people will either be embarrassed or will be very happy and flattered to have gained somebody's attention, especially a photographer! It helps if you see something on someone that draws your attention.

Thank you Thomas.

Thanks for the suggestion Aseryes (?) but...I am not much of a people photographer...I am more of a non-people photographer...meaning I photograph everything except people. I have several folders of stock images and textures on my deviantArt page and it will give you an idea of my areas of concentration.

Sherry, welcome to TPF. I had a Nikon Cool Pix 5700 that went black too, I sent it back to Nikon and they worked on it and sent it back for free, seems they had a problem they knew about.
Anyway hope you join in and learn a lot here.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.

Steve, I may just have to send that camera back in then. Maybe they'll fix it but it has been a while...

Took the grandbabies to Mardi Gras in Galveston today...will post some pictures from the beach later..it was cloudy and dismal..
