Welcome and all that funky jazz. I went from Kodak one-time use, to a Canon IS S2 to a Nikon D90.

If I was at home I could...

PictureCorrect - Photography Tips and Techniques comes to mind.
Online Training for Photographers, Graphic Designers, Illustrators, Multimedia Artists, and Hobbyists | Kelby Training I think is another good one.

Welcome from another somewhat Newb

Photography aside I have learned more about Texas and it's micro/local environs on this site than from any other. Example, lived in Plano since 1985. Frequently go on hour or two wherever whatever local safaris and not until joining TPF did I learn of hour away Hagerman Wildlife Refuge. Already logged three trips there in this past month.

Welcome! Houston has several great photography clubs; you might look into joining one so you can meet and interact with other more experienced photographers.
