Name is Frank and I know a couple members on the forum. I just bought my first DSLR a Canon 30D body. Don't have a lens yet LOL. Any completely new to this so you will prob get a bunch of dumb questions from me, sorry bought that.

Married to a awesome woman and have 3 kiddos.

i would definitely recommend a Canon 50 f1.8 lens... you can get them for about $135 new and its a great lens to get you going until you can really decide on what it is you want...

+1 on the 50 1.8. I got a good deal on the 1.4 so I went with one of those. The 1.8 is a good lens to start with though and is around 100$ if you look for one used on the POTN forums, or this one possibly.

+2 on the 50 1.8. I got mine refurbished from Canon and it only cost me $100. If you have a bit more to spend, I'd get the 50 1.4 for the USM and better build quality.

Ended up getting a EF 28-105mm 4.0-5.6 lens, but still hope to get a 50 1.8 within a couple months.
