Hey all!
I'm Kayla - Last month I quit the stressful world of retail & food service management to pursue my dream of starting my portrait business! I graduated with a degree in Professional Photography but it's taken 5+ long years to finally be able to devote my full time to it so HERE I GO!!!

Best of luck .. treat it like a business, always, but don't forget why you wanted to do it, either.

And network, network, network .. there are a lot of haters out there on this forum, but seek out your local PPA chapter and see if they have any help to offer.

you think the portrait business isn't as stressful as working in a restaurant? i hate to be a bummer but it is, and a portrait studio is basically a retail business.

That being said i'd rather be taking pics of screaming baby's then flipping burgers. good luck, and always remember to have fun with it, and don't give up your artistic vision-you'll sleep better

Agreed. But at least she's following her passion. There's a lot to be said there.

My wife owns her own knit shop... she constantly gets people saying, "I wish I owned my own shop so I could sit around and knit all day."


She's started responding with, "Me too!"
