Love digital photography and shooting almost any subject, but I really love nature photos. Birds, butterflies, anything outdoors. I am a zoom lens kind of guy-if it don't have a long lens-What's it good for???Recently been going to nature areas around Eastern Dallas County-Rowlett Nature trail, Spring Creek Forest, etc. Hope to learn a lot from you guys.

Hi Bob! Welcome to our little corner of the web!

Looks like I already learned somthing from you. What else is out in eastern Dallas county besides the Rowlett Nature trail and Spring Creek Forest?

Thanks!

~ edd

Thanks everyone for the replies. Edd, if you haven't been out to Spring Creek Forest in Garland you are missing something special, great place anytime of the year, spring has wildflowers and butterflies everywhere, lots of wildlife just off Hwy 190- check out this link for more info-http://www.springcreekforest.org/ I'll let you know more about Rowlett Nature Trail, just started to get more into it. Got some good shots of barred owl and red tailed hawk recently. Here is another link to hotspots around Dallas area- http://www.geocities.com/kinglet32/nctx.htm Lake Ray Hubbard is a good place for photographing wildlife- took the Osprey pic (my profile pic) there last year.

Thanks again
Bob

Greetings from Garland.

FYI- about 8 months ago, I spotted a beaver here in Duck Creek near Audobon park- saw it a time or two, haven't seen it since. And spotted a copperhead on that Rowlett Nature Trail a while back, too.

Have you been on the broken-down boardwalk out there by Rowlett Creek? It's kind of an adventure just going out there- assuming it's still there.

Stephen, I haven't been at the Woodland Basin area (I think that's what it's called) in some time, in fact the last time I was down at that boardwalk someone set it on fire a short time later. The parking lot down there has been closed the last few times I went by. Might have check it out soon. On the other side of Rowlett creek, I was down at the Rowlett nature trail this morning and I had just started down the trail, about 10 steps, getting my camera ready, etc.-looked up and within 15 yards to my right a red tailed hawk was sitting in a tree about head high. I got off two shots before it took off but in my haste neither one was in focus. Oh well, makes me want to go back!!

Thanks

I was out on that boardwalk, or nearby once, when it was pretty wet. I actually got a shot of a turtle falling off a log. Caught him in mid-air. All I could think was "well, how easy was that?" It's not a great photo, but a good memory. In years past, I remember seeing (and mainly hearing!) woodpeckers out there, too. Down at the end of the Rowlett Nature Trail, I've seen a lot of pelicans and other shore birds- which I assume is the attraction. I've seen some beaver-chewed trees on that trail, too, but no beavers.
